As promised, I’ve now closed my last remaining MSN account. No more Microsoft-controlled IM for me. Not now. Not ever.

And with that, I’m essentially friendless, as I didn’t bother trying to convert people after all. But nothing to worry about. I’m sure it’ll work itself out.

The other day, the TV I’ve been drooling over was finally on a sale. So I ran to check my bank account. I’ve been saving for a long time, but with my income of approximately 0, it wasn’t very much there. I found a friend willing to buy my old TV, and with the money I then had, I convinced my parents to give me the missing money, since it was my birthday and all. Ordered it this Tuesday, and picked it up Wednesday. It’s awesome!

42” of beautiful, black TV. Supporting 1080p and having both HDMI, Component, DVI and VGA-connectors, in addition to the old, clunky composite and SCART-thingies. So now I’m finally able to watch HD in my own room.

This is pretty much the greatest thing ever, and those that claim they can’t see a difference between HD and regular content, should get their eyes checked. DVDs look good enough from my couch, but I can easily tell the difference between most DVDs I’ve tried and some 720/1080p-files I’ve “aquired”.

Permanent sign-out · 302 days ago

This weekend will be a small milestone for me. I’ll permanently sign out, and remove my .NET Messenger Service (MSN) account. I’ve already closed two older accounts, and on friday, the last one goes. From then on, I’ll only use Jabber, IRC and email for my communication online.

No more trying out fifteen different clients, only to find that none of them do what I want, how I want it. No more “nudges”, “winks” or other annoying features.

So if anyone wants to contact me, either drop by IRC (perchr on EFNet, pnb on Rizon and Freenode) or get yourself a Jabber-account (mine is perfectlynormal@jabber.no). Or, if you have GMail, Google Talk is also Jabber deep down, and works as well.

For Windows and Linux, Gajim is the recommended client. At least the one I like the best. And when/if I ever get myself a Mac, I’ve heard good things about iChat.
